Scottish Dressage Group is a friendly, welcoming club for riders who enjoy training, competing and developing their dressage together. We organise competitions and training events throughout the year and welcome riders of all abilities.
Our History
Scottish Dressage Group was founded in 1964 by six ladies: Mrs Stella Hayward, Mrs Joan Scott Plummer, Mrs Mary Wood, Mrs Ludi How, Mrs Bunty Russell and Mrs Gladys Dale. Their aim was to promote dressage training.
The group’s first unofficial name was the GOLD Group — Good Old Ladies Dressage! For official purposes, it was known as the Edinburgh Dressage Group. In 1968, the name changed to the Scottish Dressage Group, reflecting the growing membership from across Scotland rather than just the Edinburgh area.
Membership was originally limited to 25. Today, we have an open membership of around 50, with members mainly based in Edinburgh, the Lothians and the Borders.
Our Competitions
We run dressage competitions throughout the year, offering opportunities to enjoy competing in a friendly and supportive environment.
Winter competitions are usually held on the first Sunday of October, December, March and May. Competitors are asked to wear full competition attire and ensure their horses are turned out appropriately.
Our December competition is always a little different, with tinsel and baubles making an appearance! Extra prizes are awarded for the best festive fancy dress, adding some Christmas fun to the day.
Summer competitions take place on the first Wednesday of June and August, with a slightly more relaxed atmosphere. Full competition attire and formal turnout are not required. However, riders should be smartly dressed in suitable riding attire, with tack and safety equipment complying with British Dressage (BD) rules.
Points are awarded throughout the year, with trophies and rosettes presented at our Annual General Meeting (AGM), usually held in February.
Training and Other Events
Alongside our competitions, we organise training and demonstration events throughout the year to help members develop their skills and enjoy learning together.
