Meet your committee

Teams – Darren Miller

Darren has been on the committee since the summer of 2019 and held the position of Chair from January 2020 until recently stepping down from the role. He will, however, remain on the committee and continue to organise teams, which is greatly appreciated.

Darren is currently taking a break from riding, having had to retire his horse Brodie due to a cardiac condition, but he hopes to be back in the saddle soon. He is a keen volunteer for the club and currently serves as Area Rep, as well as being a BRC Official Steward, and can often be seen helping out at our many shows and clinics.

Treasurer – Sandra Kay

Competition Secretary – Susan Whiteford

Susan is a happy hacker but her main horsey job is head groom and driver to her daughter Eilidh. Susan has supported Eilidh through Pony Club, as entries secretary for competitions and child protection. Eilidh has now moved on to eventing and Susan is now involved with SDG as our competition secretary. The club would be lost without the amazing effort that Susan puts in and she was awarded a special trophy as recognition for all the work she does for the club.

Safe Guarding Officer – Claire Scott

Claire is currently competing to medium level Dressage and was recently crowned the 2022 Elementary Silver Freestyle Scottish Champion. Claire also enjoys competing in working hunter showing classes. Claire is a BHS Stage 4 Senior Riding Instructor providing her services across Edinburgh and the Lothians.

If you have a safeguarding issue Claire can be contacted via email to – sdgsafeguarding@gmail.com

Chair and Membership Secretary – Evelyn Orr

Karen Scott

Karen joined the club in 2019 and is responsible for recording and maintaining the minutes for all club meetings — a role she carries out with meticulous attention to detail.

She particularly values that the club offers a supportive introduction to competing, alongside a genuinely warm and friendly atmosphere.

Karen has loved horses for as long as she can remember, and owning her own horse has been a lifelong dream. She and her horse, Tomos, enjoy regular lessons and beach rides, and they are currently competing at Elementary dressage level.
