The Psychologist and Coaches Approach to Rider Performance Workshop

August 18 @ 10:00 am - 1:00 pm

The workshop will cover the technical foundations of performance. The two sides of the emotional ‘coin’ related to performance are 1) building confidence, and 2) managing and focusing on the often negative and unpleasant emotions that come with performance.

In this session we will combine the knowledge and experience of Karon (as an expert coach), with Tony (as an applied sport psychologist) to look at the main drivers of technical and mental preparation for performance.

In Karon’s session there will be an emphasis on the technical foundations of performance.

Tony will focus on the two sides of the emotional ‘coin’ related to performance – how to build confidence and how to manage and focus the often negative and unpleasant emotions that come with performance.

In the third part of the session there will be a dialogue between coach and psychologist based around the following questions:

1. How do I structure a practice / coaching session to get the best out of it?

 2. The psychologist won’t be there next time I have a coaching session – what can I do in a session to practice and consolidate my mental skills?

3. How do I know if the barrier to improvement is a technical one or a psychological one?

 4. How should I review my practice sessions to get the most out of them?
